La Bella Donna Historical Apothecary will have several pre 17th century products for sale at Gulf Wars XXV!!
The products are under the label of Aromatario del Giglio (Apothecary of the Lily), an extension of the La Bella Donna living history blog. I am Giata, the speziale (herbalist) and living history participant who loves to indulge herself in historical apothecary products made from authentic recipes of the medieval and renaissance time periods. If you come take my classes where I share my research finds with you, you can then visit merchant’s row and indulge yourself in luxurious cosmetic and hygiene products made from authentically reproduced recipes with historical origins (200 AD – 1600 AD). Each product is made with love by hand in my personal still-room with organic ingredients.
There will be three types of recipes available:
- Historical Primary Source
- Nothing has been changed. The recipe was found in a pre-17th century primary source reference
- Historical Secondary Source
- One or two pre-17th century ingredients have been added for consistency, stability, or extended shelf life
- Historically Inspired
- Two historical recipes, or parts of those recipes, have been combined, and/or a modern ingredient has been added for convenience, stability, or health purposes
These will be available near the food court at Dr. Henry Best’s Shop. Want something special? Come talk to me at the Ca’ d’Oro Salon on Artisan’s Row and we can perhaps mix up a custom recipe for you and have it delivered at war.
All the products are handcrafted in my own personal still- room in New Orleans, Louisiana. I use primary source recipes from Renaissance and Medieval manuscripts along with organic, all-natural ingredients that do not contain synthetic preservatives, artificial fragrances, or harmful chemicals. I use pure herbs, spices, oils, vegetables, and occasionally a mineral pigment known as iron oxide. THAT’S IT. My products are safe and simple.
All La Bella Donna Apothecary products are handmade in small batches. They have a short lifespan due to the natural properties of the oils and herbs used. Store in a cool, dry place for best results. The historically accurate packaging is recycled glass or recycled paper when possible and responsibly manufactured modern material in all other cases.
