I’m so happy to begin formal planning for the upcoming Gulf Wars.
***Update: this year the Salon will be in the merchant area of Gulf Wars and feature an apothecary with products for ALL THE PERIODS! We will be limited to discussions and demos because we will not be an official class area (that takes at least five years to achieve). Still, we will be hosting enchanted ground hours, period gaming hours, period A&S demonstrations, historical discussions, socialization, and intellectual stimulation in a period atmosphere. Come see us 🙂 ***
Welcome to the Renaissance, where humanism has brought light and spirit into places of rigor and isolation. Likewise, at Ca’ d’Oro Renaissance Salon games are played, music is heard, ideas are discussed, perspectives debated, refreshments are served, and the arts & sciences of the 13th – 16th centuries are taught.
The Ca’ d’Oro Renaissance Salon hosted an official Gulf Wars class area of Gulf Wars XXIV and for XXV will be located near the Sable and Gules Theatre. Ca’ d’Oro offers a variety of activities focused on the A&S of post-13th century life. In addition to the classes there is the La Bella Donna Historical Apothecary, the Gaming Tables, and the Enchanted Ground area. There will be an artisan solar each day, open gaming each day, enchanted ground persona play from 4pm to 5pm daily, and an Italian Personae Social on Friday from 5pm to 9pm.
The discussion track for Gulf Wars XXV consists of fashion (French, Tudor, and Italian), heraldry (medieval/renaissance style and display), historical games (playing cards, bocce, primiera, calculi, gluckhaus, backgammon, and more), historical toilette (perfume, hygiene, and beauty products for men and women), and informational demos during open hours.
If you would like to host a session at Ca’ d’Oro simply submit your demo/discussion idea via the Salon Google Form. If you taught a class at the Salon last year and would like to teach at Gulf Wars on Artisan’s Row, please go to the Gulf Wars homepage to get information on how to submit your classes to the GW Class Coordinators. They have followed our successful example and also have a blog page this year, so look for the link to that as well.
There will be a silent auction to benefit the Ca’ d’ora demos and Ca’ d’Oro pavilion improvements. The silent auction will open Monday at 9am and close Friday at noon. There will also be a period luncheon on Wednesday where participants can help prepare and eat a perfectly period mid-day feast.
Italies Day (Friday) is our theme day for Gulf Wars XXV and is sponsored by the La Bella Donna Historical Apothecary and House Argent Lion. There will be period focused discussion all day, a mid-day feast, and a Medici (French/Italian) Social to finish the evening. The Known World Party theme this year is Venetian Carnival so, like last year, we would love to attend after the social and process over in a group. We hope to see all the Italian personae there on Friday!
We couldn’t offer such a great salon without help from wonderfully talented and dedicated volunteers. Thank you to all the great teachers and staff that support this endeavor to bring a Late Period Life area to Gulf Wars.
